When I meet with clients, they often ask about superfoods. What are they? Which ones should they be eating and how much? Will eating them help them to miraculously loose weight? In response to the apparent interest (and confusion) surrounding the topic, I have decided to dedicate several blog posts to discussing superfoods and to share my top ten list.
First of all, there is no set list of superfoods out there. These are simply foods that are nutrient dense and have been shown to offer benefits above and beyond providing basic nutrients and energy. I have tried to stay away from basing my list on trendy foods, for they rarely deliver on the miraculous promises made about them. Acai berry for example, is a fantastic source of antioxidants, but it’s expensive, ecologically irresponsible (coming from the Brazilian rain forest), and really no better than other more accessible antioxidant rich foods like dark chocolate, tomatoes and blueberries.
Instead, my list is based on foods that you can easily find in your local supermarket and that are packed full of nutritional goodness.

I will go into more detail about each superfood in future posts and also provide you with superfood recipes. For now, keep this list in mind and aim to eat from at least 3 of the superfood categories each day.
